Ditzy entered the bakery, blinking at the sudden warmth and light inside. As usual, she kept her head down to avoid any awkward comments about her, erm, eye issues, but glanced up to see Pinkie bouncing around behind the counter. The pink filly was madly mixing up a batch of something that looked... interesting, to say the least.
"Can I help with anything?"
"Oh, no, don't be silly! You're a guest, and Mrs Cake is still sleeping so I get to try this new recipe that I've been thinking about for a while now. Come look!"

As Ditzy wandered behind the counter, Pinkie pulled her closer and pointed a hoof at the bowl.
"It's going to be a caramel mudcake, with real mud. I figured Rarity is always going on about how mud is SOOOO good for the skin, and caramel is sooooooo tasty that putting the two together seemed like a great idea! I mean, why would anyone call it a mudcake if they didn't want to put mud in it? They wouldn't! Duh!"
To be honest, the cake looked a bit off. Ditzy blushed inadvertently when she realised how close Pinkie was to her and how expectant she looked waiting for... oh, right, an answer.
"Sounds great, but um, maybe I can help you make something more, er, conventional? Just in case this one doesn't work out?"
The two ponies spent half an hour discussing recipes- one of them squeaking with excitement at every new suggestion- and settled finally on making chocolate muffins. Fast, not very many ingredients, and difficult to mess up. Pinkie mixed obediently as Ditzy read the recipe, double-checking each ingredient to make sure she'd gotten the proportions right. That was one old habit from her school-filly days that she'd never quite kicked.

Spooning it into the trays, Pinkie smiled at her, offering the spoon for her to lick. Celestia, that pony was so much nicer than she'd seemed to begin with...! Admittedly, she was still silly, but it was so refreshing to talk to someone who didn't seem to automatically pity her for something she had no control over. Pinkie had never mentioned her problem, nor accidentally called her by that stupid nickname- she hadn't even seemed to feel awkward meeting Ditzy's eyes. Though, it would take a pretty major issue to ever make Pinkie feel awkward.

Watching her slide the muffin tray into the oven, she admired her tail, eyes wandering down a little to check out her re- Hey. Wow. Though Pinkie was a little chubby (no surprise, considering where she lived) she was pretty adorable. Ditzy found herself staring a little more obviously than she intended as Pinkie turned around, making her blush and resettle her wings a little. Oh no, hope she didn't notice.

While the smell of warm muffins filled the kitchen, Ditzy found herself giggling with Pinkie Pie as if they'd been friends for years. The pink filly had a natural talent for making everyone feel liked, and conversation jumped so fast from topic to topic that nopony would have time to be bored. After learning all about Pinkie's obsession with oatmeal (How did they get to oatmeal when they were originally talking about manes? Who knew.) Ditzy checked the muffins, poking them. They seemed ready enough, so she carefully lifted them out of the oven, placing them on the bench.

The two ponies waited barely any time before cramming muffins into their mouths, Ditzy's eyes opening wide as she felt how hot they were. Augh! Spitting it out as casually as she could, she stared at Pinkie munching down and wondered how exactly she could eat molten muffins without even a squeak. Must be a talent.

As they were cleaning up, Mrs Cake entered the kitchen, smiling at Ditzy without breaking her stride. "Good morning, you two. Did you enjoy your night?"
"I-it's not like that," stammered a mortified Ditzy. "Pinkie and I just bumped into each other this morning and she offered me breakfast and, uh..." She trailed off as Mrs Cake looked at her a little confusedly, reminding herself that not everypony jumped to conclusions quite as fast as she did.
"Um." she said finally, grinding to a halt. "Would you like a muffin?"
The older mare took one happily and munched away, waving goodbye as Ditzy made her excuses  and left, taking some goodies home in her mailbag.

Somehow, going home to her little house felt a bit lonely after hanging out with Pinkie, even though the pink pony had bounced alongside her for a good kilometre before needing to head back to the bakery. Stretching her wings, she looked back once towards town and flew home, doing gentle loops in the air impulsively as she flew over the road. The clouds were gathering, and nopony was outside to watch Ditzy fly- why shouldn't she let herself have a little fun? Somehow, when she was alone, she could relax enough to fly passably well. She was no Rainbow Dash- her house on the ground reflected that- but these moments of freedom had always helped make up for being, well, more than a little lonely. The gray filly flew off, feeling full and peaceful. Time to take a nap. Or clean house. Or maybe, maybe she could write a letter.
Little more of my Derpy Hooves / Pinkie story. Apologies for not writing faster.
